Setup Wizard

The Setup Wizard is used to configure your Loocam DVR the first time you power it on. From here, there are several settings that will ensure that your DVR is displaying accurate time and date information on your recordings. 

 

 

1. Device Name: The name of your device. When using more than one DVR system it can be helpful to rename your individual devices. Rename the device by double clicking with the left mouse button. The pop-up keyboard will appear. Enter a new name as desired.

2. Select the display Language

3. Select the Date Format. The options are:

    • DD-MM-YY
    • MM-DD-YY
    • YY-MM-DD
4. Select the Time Format. The options are:
    • 12-Hour
    • 24-Hour

5. Select your Time Zone.

6. Select the System Date by clicking on the Calender Icon 

7. Confirm the System Time is accurate

8. By default the Setup Wizard will be disabled after the initial setup. To re-enable the Setup Wizard when the DVR powers up, check the box beside Setup Wizard. You can also re-enable this menu from the Basic > System menu under the Setup Wizard setting.

9. If you wish to view your Loocam security camera system on your IPhone or Android device, scan the unique DVR UID using the LooCloud app to view and manage your video and image recordings on the go! Your Loocam security camera system does not need to be connected to the LooCloud app to function. You can always set up a LooCloud account at a later date by visiting the System Information screen.

LooCloud Mobile App

Install the LooCloud App to your mobile device. You can find the app using the Apple Store for Apple devices or the Google Play Store for Android Devices. Once you have registered your LooCloud account, scan the Loocam DVR UID found in the Setup Wizard on your TV or monitor, using the built-in UID scanner in the LooCloud App.

This is not your Loocam DVR UID. This is an example. Please locate your unique DVR UID in the Setup Wizard on your display

Live View

Live View is the default screen you will see while viewing your Channels. It displays the live video feed for your active channels. You can rearrange the order of the channel displays by dragging and dropping the individual channels on the screen’s layout. You can also double-click on any channel to toggle between Single View and Multi View options. From these screens you can use the mouse to right click anywhere and bring up the Quick Menu.

You may also notice small icons in the bottom left corner for each of your channels. These icons represent different settings for each channel. The icons and their meanings are as follows:

 - This icon displays when the camera detects motion

 - This icon states that there is no network connection

Green Box - A green box means manual or triggered reporting is enabled

Yellow Box - a yellow box means motion detection recording is enabled

 - Audio settings not supported on this device.

 

The Quick Menu

The Quick Menu can be easily accessed from the Live View screens by right clicking on your mouse. It contains several options to configure and manage any cameras or recordings.

 

 

The Quick Menu options from top to bottom are:

1. Single Channel View: View any channel in full screen.

2. Multi Channel View: View several channels at once.

3. Start Scan/Stop Scan: Select to automatically cycle through the DVR's channels. Set the interval options in the Main Menu > Live > Main Monitor menu.

4. ColourSelect to be taken to a Live View of the selected channel. Select your channel from the drop down menu, and adjust the Brightness, Hue, Saturation, Contrast or Sharpness of the image using the menu. Increase the values by left clicking on the + sign, and decrease the value by clicking on the the - sign. You can always restore default settings by pressing the Default button at the bottom of the menu. Please confirm any changes by left-clicking on the Save button.

5. E-ZoomSelect this option to digitally zoom in on portions of your screen. After selecting this option you will automatically be taken to Live View. From there you can left click with the mouse to zoom in where you click, and left click once more to return to your original view. Right click to go back to the previous screen.

6. Audio: This feature is not supported by this product.

7. PTZ: This feature is not supported by this product.

8. SnapThe DVR can take snapshots of live video automatically. You can set the snapshot intervals under the Main Menu > Record > Snap menu. Recorded Snaps can later be found in the Main Menu > Search > Image tab.

9. Start/Stop Record: Select to manually start or stop recording video for the selected channel. The default is set to automatically record 24/7.

10. Playback: Select to view the video file currently being recorded. You can search all of your recorded files in the Main Menu > Search > Time Search menu.

The recording will start playing back in Single Channel view, and the Playback Bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.

The playback bar is used to navigate your recorded video.

Main Menu

The Main Menu shows several different system operations. Click on an icon to configure, operate, and maintain your Loocam DVR system.

 

Select to view the following options:

    • Setup - Contains several different system options to personalize and specify settings for your Loocam DVR system.
    • Search - Playback and manage your video and image recordings.
    • Backup - Backup your video and image recordings to a separate hard drive.
    • Information - Contains system, event, log, network, and user information.
    • Disk Management - Information on the DVR's internal hard drive including available storage space.
    • Logoff - Logs the current user out of the Loocam DVR system.
    • Shut Down - Safely powers of the Loocam DVR system.

Setup Menu

The Setup Menu is where you will control most of the settings and recordings on your Loocam DVR system. 

1. Basic - Customize personal settings, as well as date and time information.

2. Live - Contains settings to change display layouts and colour settings. 

3. Record - Set up recording options for your channels.

4. Schedule - Determine the times your cameras will be active. The default is 24/7.

5. Alarm - Configure alarm settings for each channel.

6. Network - View settings related to the DVR's network connection.

7. Users - Add and remove users.

8. PTZ - This feature is not supported by this product.

Basic > System

The Basic > System menu contains several settings to personalize your Loocam DVR system to your liking.

 

 

1. Device NameThe name of your Loocam device. Left click to bring up the virtual keyboard to change the device name. Confirm and save changes by selecting the enter button.

2. System Number: The default is 0, or you can manually enter a system number. Left click to bring up the virtual number pad to change the system number. Confirm and save changes by selecting the OK button.

3. Video Format: The option is set by the manufacturer depending on region. The default is locked to AUTO to ensure regional compatibility.

4. Enable Password: Select whether you want to protect DVR access with a password.

5. Show System Time: Select whether to display the current time on screen. The default is set to enable time display on screen.

6. Max Online Users: Select how many users can simultaneously access the DVR through the Mobile App. The default is set to 10.

7. Video Output: Select the output resolution. The default is 1920x1080.

8. Language:  Select the language you want the menus to be displayed in.

9. Logout After [Minutes]: Determine how long you want to stay logged into the Loocam DVR system before automatically logging out.

10. Setup Wizard: Select whether you want to Setup Wizard to appear the next time the DVR is powered on.

Basic > Date and Time

Adjust the date and time information for your Loocam DVR system.

 

1. Date Format: Select between different formats to display the date. The options are:

    • DD-MM-YY (default)
    • YY-MM-DD
    • MM-DD-YY
2. Time Format: Select between a 12 hour and 24 hour format.
3. Time Zone: Select your current timezone.
4. Sync Time with NTP Server: Automatically update your system date and time with this feature. Check the box to sync the system time with an internet server. The default NTP server is provided by Windows.
5. NTP Server: Ensures you have an accurate system time. The default server is time.windows.com. It is recommended you use the default server. You can change the setting by left-clicking with the mouse, and inputting a new server using the virtual keyboard.
6. Update Now: Select this option after entering a new NTP Server to enable and save your changes.
7. System Date: Select the selected system date. To change the date click the calendar icon  and select the accurate date from the calendar menu using the mouse.
8. System Time: Displays the current system time.
9. Remember to click on the Save Now button to save any changes!
Basic > DST

Setup your DVR to recognize Daylight Savings Time (DST).

 

 

1. Enable: Select whether you want to enable the tracking of Daylight Savings Time on your system time.

2. Time Offset [Hours]: Determine how many hours you want to offset the time. The default is 1.

3. Mode: Select between the week or by a preselected date. Ensure that option 1 (Enable) is enabled for DST settings to take effect at the selected time.

4. From: Determine Daylight Savings starting time by clicking the calendar icon   and selecting the appropriate date from the calendar menu.

5. Until: Determine Daylight Savings end time by clicking the calendar icon   and selecting the appropriate date from the calendar menu.

Live > Live

Personalize the names of your cameras and change colour settings.

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Camera Name: Select to rename camera using the virtual keyboard. Select Enter to confirm. Right Click to dismiss the virtual keyboard.

3. Colour: Select Setting(4) to alter the Brightness, Hue, Saturation, Contrast and Sharpness settings for the selected channel. Select ‘OK’ to confirm changes.

The default colour settings are the best for standard lighting conditions.

 Live > Main Monitor

Choose between several different display options for the Live View screen.

1. Channel Selection: Select where each channel displays.

2. Display Mode: Select how many channels are displayed in Live View.

3. Interval[S]: The amount of time in seconds before changing to another channel while using the Start Scan/Stop Scan feature in the Quick Menu. The default is 5 seconds.

Live > Video Mask

A video mask is used to exclude sensitive parts from your camera’s vision. This can be helpful in preventing false alerts from the motion sensor (eg. trees blowing in the wind or cars driving in the street). Follow the steps below to learn how to set up a Video Mask.

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Setting: Select to set a Video Mask for this channel.

How to set a Video Mask

 

After selecting the “Setting” option in the Video Mask menu you will be taken to a Live View for the channel you selected. Once on the Live View screen click and hold down the left mouse button and drag it across the area you want to mask. Once you have covered the area you wish to mask, release the mouse button. This area will not be visible in your video recordings. In the below picture notice the video mask feature enabled over the lower portion of the right window pane.

Record > Enable

Customize the quality settings for your recordings and choose what information is displayed.

 

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Record: Select which channels to record. The default is to enable video recording. Uncheck the box to disable recording for this channel.

3. Audio: This feature is not supported by this product.

To apply your selections to all channels check the box at the bottom of the screen under the section marked “All”.

Remember to "Apply" your settings before exiting the menu.

Record > Record Bitrate

Adjust settings that determine the quality of recorded video

 

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Resolution: Automatically displays the record resolution for each connected camera.

3. FPS: Select how many frames-per-second will be recorded. Higher frames-per-second will take up more hard drive space but will provide a smoother picture. The default is 30 FPS. 

4. Encode: Select between CBR (Constant Bit Rate) and VBR (Variable Bit Rate) audio encoding. VBR is the default. 

5. Quality: Select between 7 levels of video quality. The default is “higher” quality. Lower settings will use less storage space while reducing image quality.

6. Max Bitrate: Select the maximum bit rate to be transferred from the camera to the DVR. A higher bitrate will result in a higher quality recording at the expense of storage space.

To apply your selections to all channels check the box at the bottom of the screen under the section marked “All”.

Record > Stamp

Select different display and positioning options for camera name and time information.

 

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Camera Name: Select whether to display the camera name on the video recordings. Default is set to display camera name.

3. Time Stamp: Select whether to display the time on the video recordings. Default is set to display time.

4. Position: Select “Setting” to be taken to channel’s full screen view. From there drag and drop where you’d like the Camera Name and Time Stamp to be displayed while viewing your live and recorded footage.

To apply your selections to all channels check the box at the bottom of the screen under the section marked “All”.

 Remember to "Apply" your settings before exiting the menu.

Record > Automatic Overwrite

Select your overwrite settings.

 

Automatic Overwrite: Select to automatically overwrite the oldest video with the newest video as hard drive space is needed. The default is set to overwrite the oldest material on the DVR. Be advised that turning this setting off will require manual management of any files on the DVR.
Remember to "Apply" your settings before exiting the menu.
Record > Snap

A Snap is a quick single-frame photograph of the image that appears on the Live View whenever motion is detected. 

 

1. Resolution: The resolution for Snap photographs is CIF resolution.

2. Snap Time Interval [S]: Set how many seconds between each image. The default is 5 seconds.

3. Snap Number: Select how many snaps to send with the email notification. The default is 1.

Schedule > Schedule

Set a schedule for your recordings.

 

Schedule: Each box represents one hour. Times that will be recorded are marked light blue. Double-click on a date to determine your recording schedule for that day. The default is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

1. Channel List: Select the channel you wish you schedule from the drop down list.

2. Scheduling Box: Each box represents one hour, from left to right, starting at 12AM - 1AM, and ending at 11PM-12AM. Double click on a one hour block to set the schedule for that day. Light blue boxes, as pictured, indicate that the DVR will be recording during that time.

3. Copy Button: Copy the settings for one channel to other channels. Select the channels you will copy the settings to by using the “Apply Settings To:” drop down menu. Once you select the channel you will copy the settings to, select the “Copy” button.

4. Quick Add/Quick Remove: Quickly add or remove one hour boxes from the Scheduling Box.

Set a Schedule Menu

Use this menu to set a more precise schedule than what the Quick Add and Quick Remove tools can offer.

1. To set your schedule, select the day of the week you want to schedule from the drop down menu.

2. Select Add to create a new schedule.

3. Select Delete  to delete an existing schedule.

4. Using the drop down menu select your Start Time and End Time.

5. Confirm your selection by clicking the check mark.

To copy the settings for one channel to other channels:

6. Select the channels you will copy the settings to by using the “Apply Settings To” drop down menu.

7. Select the Copy button.

Set the schedule for the camera’s built in motion detector. Each box represents one hour. Selected boxes are marked light blue, which indicates the cameras motion sensor will be active during that time. Double-click on a date to determine your recording schedule for that day. The default is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Schedule > Motion

Motion Recording:: An alternate recording method to Schedule. Selected boxes are marked light blue, which indicates that the DVR will be recording if motion is detected during the times indicated.

1. Channel List: Select the channel you wish you schedule from the drop down list.

2. Scheduling Box: Each box represents one hour, from left to right, starting at 12AM - 1AM, and ending at 11PM-12AM. Double click on a one hour block to set the schedule for that day. Light blue boxes, as pictured, indicate that the DVR will be recording during that time.

3. Copy Button: Copy the settings for one channel to other channels. Select the channels you will copy the settings to by using the “Apply Settings To:” drop down menu. Once you select the channel you will copy the settings to, select the “Copy” button.

4. Quick Add/Quick Remove: Quickly add or remove one hour boxes from the Scheduling Box.

Set a Schedule Menu

This feature is not supported for this product.

Alarm > Sensor
This feature is not supported for this product.

 

Alarm > Motion

Customize settings for motion detection alarms and recording.

 

1. Channel List: List of available channels.

2. Enable: Enable motion detection for the specified channel.

3. Holding Time: The time, in seconds, that the channel will record after detecting motion before resolving the video recording. If it continues to detect motion during that time, it will treat it as part of the same recording and continue the recording until no motion has been detected for the Holding Time.

4. Trigger: Select the ”Setting” button to set up Alarm and “To Record” functions. See Below

5. Area: Select the “Setting” button to set up an area for motion detection. See Below

Use the bottom row to manage all channels.

Trigger > Setting

1. Buzzer: Select whether you want a buzzer alarm to sound from the DVR when motion is detected during the determined times.

2. Show Full Screen: Select whether a specific channel appears on your monitor when this motion sensor has been triggered.

3. To Alarm Out: This feature is not supported by this device.

4. Email: Select whether an an email alert is sent when the motion sensor has been triggered.

5. Snap: Select whether a snapshot of the screen is recorded once the motion sensor has been triggered.

Trigger > To Record

Select which additional channels will start recording when motion is detected. To enable this feature ensure a check mark is in the box beside the channel that you would like to record.

Trigger > To PTZ

This feature is not supported by this product.

Area > Setting

How to Set Up a Motion Grid

Customize and set up a motion grid. This determines what areas of the camera image will be triggered to motion detection.

Left click and drag to determine the specific areas that WILL NOT trigger motion detection. Any area covered by the grid is active

 Remember to Click the SAVE ICON to save your settings.

In this second image we can see that the window is not covered by the grid. Any motion detected in that area of the image will not trigger motion detection recording. If someone were to enter through the door however, the motion sensor would trigger and the camera would start recording footage to the DVR.

1. Sensitivity Slider: Determines how much movement in the camera’s image will trigger motion detection . A lower sensitivity will require more significant movement to trigger motion detection.  

2. Select All: The entire screen is sensitive to motion detection

3. Select None: Removes the Grid. None of the screen is sensitive to motion detection

4. Test Sensitivity: Click and drag across the screen to simulate movement and ensure your sensitivity settings will pick movement.

5. Save Settings: Select to save any changes to your sensitivity or motion grid settings.

6. Close Menu: Closes the Sensitivity Menu. Right click on the mouse to restore the menu.

Motion > Schedule

Set the schedule for the camera’s built in motion detector. Each box represents one hour. Selected boxes are marked light blue, which indicates the cameras motion sensor will be active during that time. Double-click on a date to determine your recording schedule for that day. The default is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Motion Recording:: An alternate recording method to Schedule. Selected boxes are marked light blue, which indicates that the DVR will be recording if motion is detected during the times indicated.

1. Channel List: Select the channel you wish you schedule from the drop down list.

4. Quick Add/Quick Remove: Quickly add or remove one hour boxes from the Scheduling Box.

Set a Schedule Menu

Use this menu to set a more precise schedule than what the Quick Add and Quick Remove tools can offer.

1. To set your schedule, select the day of the week you want to schedule from the drop down menu.

2. Select Add to create a new schedule.

3. Select Delete  to delete an existing schedule.

4. Using the drop down menu select your Start Time and End Time.

5. Confirm your selection by clicking the check mark.

To copy the settings for one channel to other channels:

6. Select the channels you will copy the settings to by using the “Apply Settings To” drop down menu.

7. Select the Copy button.

Alarm > Video Loss

Set up alarms in the event of a loss of video connection between your camera and DVR.

To configure any Video Loss options select the “Trigger” option for the corresponding channel.  The following menu will appear on your screen.

1. Buzzer: Select whether you want a buzzer alarm to sound from the DVR when motion is detected during the determined times.

2. Show Full Screen: Select whether a specific channel appears on your monitor when this motion sensor has been triggered

3. To Alarm Out: This feature is not supported by this device.

4. Email: Select whether an an email alert is sent when the motion sensor has been triggered.

Alarm > Other Alarms

Control any other alarms from this menu.

 

1. Alarm Types: From the drop down menu select the type of alarm to configure. The alarms and their functions are as follows:

    • Disk Full: Set up alarms for when the disk runs out of available storage space. This alarm comes with an additional feature called the Disk Shortage alarm. The default setting for the DVR is to record 24/7. See Below
    • IP Conflict: Set up alarms for any IP conflicts. This typically occurs if the DVR is assigned an IP that has already been assigned to another networked device, which can happen after a power outage, when several devices attempt to connect to the internet at the same time.
    • Disconnect: Set up alarms if the DVR is disconnected from the internet connection.
    • Disk Attenuation War: Set up alarms if there are issues with vibrations or shock attenuation within the DVR’s hard drive. Increased vibration or shock could corrupt any files you may have saved.
    • Disk Lost: Set up alarms if there are corrupted files detected on the DVR’s hard drive.
2. Buzzer: Select whether you want a alarm buzzer to sound from the DVR.
3. Email: Select whether you would like to receive an email alert at the specified email address.
4. To Alarm Out: This feature is not supported by this product.
5. Disk Shortage Alarm: Only available under the Disk Full alarm type, this option triggers an alarm once your disk drive has reached the determined capacity.
 Remember to "Apply" your settings before exiting the menu.

The DVR will automatically detect these settings and configure for best results once you have connected an ethernet adapter.

Network > Network

 It is strongly recommended that all settings in the Network panel remain unchanged.

1. If you connect to the internet using a PPPOE service provider: Please ensure the PPPOE selection box is enabled and that your username and password are accurately inserted into the proper fields.

2.Once you have entered your username and password, select the “Test” button to determine if you are connected to the internet. If you are successfully connected, it will state “OK”. If you are unable to connect a message will appear stating that you “Cannot Connect To The Network”
